In Sanskrit the term lila or ‘the divine play’, is used to describe the often unpredictable, hidden energies or the unseen laws of nature that control, modulate and sustain our daily lives. In the Hindu worldview it is believed that any act of creation or art form utilizes these unpredictable energies, cultivating them into a restricted portion of time and space that is in a constant dynamic state, where the unseen can be revealed.

Lila is viewed as the journey of the soul, both joyous and dramatic; it is an elaborate, fickle and continually absorbing game for all participants. The exhibition, ‘Crossing the Waters’ attempts to describe part of this journey, and the hidden energies and unseen laws of nature, which control, modulate and sustain our ordinary lives.
